In January of 2010, District Attorney Adam B. Levy, as part of his on-going fight against Driving While Intoxicated offenses committed within Putnam County, established Putnam County’s first Asset Forfeiture Unit. District Attorney Levy appointed Assistant District Attorney Heather M. Abissi as head of the Asset Forfeiture Unit.
Asset Forfeiture is a civil action brought against criminal defendants to obtain legal right to retain the instrumentalities and/or proceeds of defendants’ felony level crimes. Vehicles that are forfeited as the result of felony level convictions, such as Felony Level Driving While Intoxicated, are sold at public auction by www.auctionsinternational.com and the proceeds are divided and used according to the mandates of New York State Civil Practice Law and Rules Article 13-A.
Routine matters pertaining to receipt of documents, towing, or other administrative concerns can be directed to Tracy Locascio, Forfeiture Administrator at 845-808-1051. Substantive questions pertaining to a specific Asset Forfeiture case should be directed to Assistant District Attorney Heather Abissi, head of the Asset Forfeiture Unit at 845-808-1056.
